Each student possesses a unique vision that needs to be carefully nurtured. My teaching method is designed to inspire students, giving them the tools they need to reach their highest potential. I want students to thrive in a positive atmosphere of learning and discovery. For the past several years, I have held classes and workshops for artists of all skill levels, and for each student, I strive to simplify the artistic process addressing the essential skills and methods to give students confidence. My students have describes my teaching style as “stress-free, fun and informative.”
I have a diverse background in contemporary and classical training. After graduating with a BFA from UMass at Amherst, my body of work focused on people interacting. I was very interested in portraying psychological drama between people in dramatically lit interior spaces. However, I wanted to push my work further. I sought to acquire the skills that would add more passion and drama to my work. Skills that would enable me to paint individuals with a lifelike stare or a dreamy expression. My love for representational painters like John Singer Sargent and Artemisia Gentileschi led me to look for traditional training at the New York Academy of Art. Here I learned anatomy, cast drawings, sculpting, perspective, and traditional painting techniques. In the classroom, I offer a step-by-step approach that trains students to draw perceptually. I hope to bring my skills and knowledge to each class so that more students are introduced to skill-based training.
