Casey Baugh at Arcadia Contemporary
Casey Baugh’s exhibition “Static” opened yesterday, November 21st, at Arcadia Contemporary in SOHO, New York. This was the first time I visited the newly rebranded Arcadia. The gallery had a mysterious atmosphere with light that seemed to radiate from the paintings themselves. My favorite painting was “Lost in Light” with it’s subtle palette of muted colors and a serene mood. The viewer is transported to another world where florescent lights and the young woman’s countenance are the only cues to ground you in this dreamlike setting. The woman is in a transitory state, tentatively reaching forward following a version of herself shrouded by shadow, and leaving behind a self illuminated by soft light. This piece strikes a perfect balance, enticing you ask metaphysical questions.
