As always, Mike Wolf, Rachel Wilkins, and Jennifer Blum did an amazing job organizing and curating the Long Island City Conception this summer. The show ran for only one week from June 6th – June 13th, but the opening was packed with activities and enthusiasm. There were Conception events taking place at the Nesva Hotel, Vespa Queens, Space Gallery, Holiday Inn LIC, and Dutch Kills Centraal Bar & Grill. There was excitement in the air as people squeezed into the Nesva backyard patio to watch the one-hour live painting competition. The Nesva gallery was also filled with an artistic crowd viewing the beautiful work of Colleen Blackard and many other artists.
I was honored to show my work in Space Gallery along with the talented representational artists Danny Quirk and Dean Adams. Here is a photo from before the event. Danny is with his friend who volunteered to have his skin painted to reveal the underlying anatomy. This article from IFLScience! shows his fascinating process in depth.
My favorite part of the night was the one-hour paint off. We were so grateful to have Elizabeth Scott volunteer to model for us. Here I am below starting my composition.
The painting starts to take form.
And finally, a photo of Liz posing with the painting.
