Malcolm T. Liepke — “Desire”

Malcolm T. Liepke, The Wild One, Oil on Canvas, 20″ x 29″

How does Liepke do it? I am clearly jealous of his work. I am jealous of his ability to paint such perfect features and lifelike hands. He can depict the moisture in eyes and lips, capturing, no, enhancing their beauty. I would go as far as to say that he has mastered this as well as Sargent. His paintings look spontaneous and the colors are rich. I can’t stop myself from gushing. Of course, he has noticeably been influenced by the Impressionists especially Degas, Manet, and Toulouse Lautrec. It’s fascinating the way he can distort features and coloring, and yet not compromise the painting at all. His summer exhibition “Desire” is on display at Arcadia Gallery from July 15 -29, 2010.
