Painting Concepts

I am reviewing my class notes to refresh my memory of some basic drawing concepts. This simple model will help every aspiring artist. Sure, it may seem elementary, but it’s good to look at every once in a while.

The five tones create the illusion of a three-dimensional effect on a two-dimentional surface. The student will profit by studying the illustration and noting that no lines are present except those made where two tones meet. There’s no such thing as a line in painting, but rather an edge that’s created by contrasting tones meeting.
